High School for the Humanities (HUM)
A Letter from the Principal
Dear Prospective Scholars and Families,
We are so delighted that you are considering New Visions Charter High School for the Humanities
(HUM). Our dedicated teaching staff is working to offer New York City students a rigorous high school education that will prepare them for college and, ultimately, for careers in education, the arts, law and public service, and the media.
Our school is guided by the principles of rigor (high academic expectations), respect (clear standards for social/emotional learning) and resp¬onsibility (for the community we live and study in). All of our
scholars begin their study with a core curriculum in the 9th and 10th grade that prepares them for the academic rigors of college readings, writing, and presenting. Our Upper House experience (11th and 12th grades) will offer students the chance to earn college credit through Advanced Placement courses in English and history and College Now courses. In addition to our focus on academics, we encourage our students to be active in the community through internships with local service agencies, public officials, journalists and neighborhood artists.
HUM is co-located on the John F. Kennedy campus with the New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science (AMS) and other small schools. It offers the diverse experience of a comprehensive high school with electives, athletics and advanced classes, and provides the individualized attention of a small school. Graduates of HUM will be prepared for the challenges of college and will be equipped with the problem solving skills necessary to make New York City, and the world, a better place for all.
We encourage prospective scholars to come to the school to see if HUM is the right fit. Click HERE for a list of our informational events. We look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Seth Lewis Levin
