Women’s March 2017
On Saturday January 21st 2017 I attended my first march ever with Girls for Gender Equity. The Women's March 2017 in Manhattan New York. Being that this was my first time ever, it set the bar pretty high for the future march's I plan on attending. It was a welcoming and comfortable environment. Everyone was so genuine and friendly which warmed my heart. There were a plethora of people ranging from young to old with their banners chanting, singing and marching.
On my way to the meeting location, I had so many questions going through my head because I didn't know what to expect being that this was my first public gathering. Questions such as what if I get tired of walking, what if I come across an angry mob of protestors or something bad happens, all these questions popped up into my head. However, I’m happy to say that during the march the environment was so welcoming and I was so engaged in the chants and marching that I honestly didn't realize how far I had walked and how much fun I was having.
As a young woman this march reminded me that, how far we have came. It made me make a decision to become more dedicated and involved. My favorite parts were the chants, the funny and eye opening banners, it was an amazing experience as a whole. Two chants that stood out to me were "this is democracy, this is diversity" and "White silence kills" the following two stood out to me because it is very factual.
