The application for the 2012-2013 cohort is now closed.

 Application Deadline

If you are interested in applying for the 2012-2013 cohort, the application will open on October 3rd, 2011. The application deadline for the 2012-2013 program is January 25th, 2012. Please check the website frequently for opportunities to learn more about the program.

Application Process

The application process has three steps that must be completed in the following order:

STEP 1: Fill out the UTR application form
STEP 2: Request that one copy of an official transcript from each university* you have attended (graduate and undergraduate) be sent to us at the following address:

Urban Teacher Residency
New Visions for Public Schools
320 West 13th Street, 6th Fl.
New York, NY 10014

*You can send your official transcripts in one batch (if you have multiple transcripts), or have them sent individually from your university.

STEP 3: Apply online for the New York City Teaching Fellows

As a candidate for UTR, you are required to complete the New York City Teaching Fellows (NYCTF) application process, however, you must complete the online UTR application first. When you have completed the online UTR application you will be provided with a link you should use to begin your application for NYCTF. You should only use the link you are provided by UTR-- do not start your application directly from the NYCTF website.

When you start the application, you will be given the option to opt out of consideration for NYCTF’s alternative certification program. If you are only interested in UTR – select the opt out option, otherwise you will be considered for both programs.

The first round of the NYCTF application process requires submission of a form, a resume and two essays.  For candidates that advance, the second round requires a full day interview event.

If you advance to the interview process with the NYCTF, please choose the earliest interview date possible. Because the UTR admissions process is rolling, it is important to move through the Teaching Fellows interview process as swiftly as possible to qualify early for UTR.

Once you start your application, you may receive communications from the NYCTF office about the status of your application. If you have been invited to interview, they will reach out to you directly. Remember to choose the earliest possible interview date with NYCTF to ensure the best opportunity of being accepted into UTR.

If you are being considered for both programs, you will receive separate emails from UTR and NYCTF about your standing in each respective program, but only after you have completed the second round interview.  Each program operates exclusive of the other, so it is possible to be rejected one program, but accepted into the other. Please refer only to emails from our program to determine your status in UTR.
