Building Sustainable Capacity & Enhancing Professional Development at Small Schools and Campuses

New Visions recognizes that in order to have a lasting impact, capacity building must include plans for individual skill development as well as opportunities to leverage the existing assets of small schools – campus structure, community partners and academic rigor. That is why, in addition to our historic one-on-one approach, we have developed both a workshop series geared specifically towards those schools that will have juniors and seniors for the first time as well as the College Bound Network approach.

Workshops

The Citi College Bound program sponsors college advisor workshops.  Recent workshops have included College Planning for Juniors and Seniors; College Awareness for Ninth and Tenth Graders; Financial Aid for Students and Parents; the SUNY Application Process; and College Essay Writing.

Campus-based College Bound Network

The campus-based counselor network model was developed in response to the growing need to connect professionals with similar roles on a campus charged with formulating and implementing high college bound expectations for all students.

This past year, the Citi College Bound program piloted the first campus-based network of high school counselors at the Evander High School Campus in the Bronx. The network provided counselors from the seven schools housed at Evander with a forum to share ideas, expertise and resources across schools. It also allowed counselors to create joint opportunities for students – such as college trips, college fairs, parent information nights and provide a more coherent approach to external enrichment opportunities like the College Now program.
