Program Details
Up to three times a year, usually in February, June and September, New Visions welcomes a new cohort of about four graduate interns. Summer interns are expected to work full time and make a 10-week commitment. School-year interns work an average of 15 to 20 hours per week and commit to a minimum of one term. Based on a performance review, exceptional interns may extend their commitment for an additional semester.
Formalized professional development includes a half-day orientation to New Visions’ mission and programs, plus regular individual check-ins. Interns participate in a workshop series, with about four sessions during summer internships and two sessions during the school semester. Sample workshop topics include effective memo-writing, research methodologies, organizational reform strategies, school finance, school-based advocacy, community engagement and small high school development. Interns are also encouraged to seek out individual professional learning opportunities.
Interns are paid and must be enrolled in a graduate school program. Please click here for upcoming deadlines and other application information.
