John Adams High School challenges and supports to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for success in college and careers. As a large school we are able to offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, Advanced Placement classes, and College Now programs. At the same time our small learning communities, each based on a different theme, allow students to become part of a nurturing community of students and teachers with similar interests.

- In 2013 John Adams won first place in the citywide Robotics and Model UN competitions. John Adams also has 27 sports teams, including swimming and cricket; the basketball team went to the state championship. John Adams students are involved in national and international affairs, and this year testified in a Senate sub-committee in Washington, DC, and visited the nation of Bosnia.
- John Adams will be starting year one of a three-year program, allowing them to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Schools in 145 different countries are part of this program, which focuses on a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum, and developing student curiosity.
2 things you should know about coming here
- Our Advanced Placement and College Now programs allow you to earn college credit in high school. In addition to the AP classes offered in the building our Virtual AP program allows you to earn credit through online AP classes.
- We offer foreign language credit in Spanish, Hindi and American sign language.
How to get in
Admissions are open to New York City residents. There is a selective admissions policy for some of the programs offered within the small learning communities.
