Study Shows Students
Excel In New Century High Schools.
Report Finds Students in NCHS Schools
Are Being Promoted from Ninth to Tenth Grades at a
Rate of 84%, 12 Percentage Points Higher Than Citywide
Average; 77% of NCHS Eleventh Graders Are On Track
to Graduate On Time, a Rate 23 Percentage Points Higher
Than Citywide Graduation Rate.
New York, NY, June 22, 2006 -- An independent study
of 75 New Century High Schools (NCHS) shows that students
in these schools have better student outcomes, including
higher attendance rates, credit accumulation rates,
and promotion rates, than other high schools within
New York City’s public school system. The researchers
concluded that “students educated in NCHS schools
in 2004-05 were better prepared for graduation than
