Peer Group Connections

HUM II has developed a partnership with Peer Group Connection (PGC) to establish a Peer Leadership Program at HUM II.

These students have been working since the beginning of the year to learn the essential skills to become group facilitators, role models and global citizens.

During this school year, these Peer Leaders will continue to build bonds, plan and facilitate lessons and parent outreach events, mentor 9th graders, and become successful scholars. "Bienvenidos!!!! My name is Ms. Guambana and I have been teaching at HUM II since 2014. I'm one of the Spanish teachers and I have taught Spanish 1, Spanish 3, Native Spanish and AP Spanish Language and Culture. Every year, my students ask me the same question, "Why do you work here if you live in CT?" and my answer is always the same, "because I like my job, I like to be inside the classroom and learn something new every day". Yes, I'm the teacher, but it does not mean my students cannot teach me something new. We all learn  and grow at the same time".

"One of my favorite things about hum ll is the staff because there have been many times they have stopped in the middle of a task  to help not just me, but also many others. It shows me how much they want us to succeed in our lives even when we don’t want to. When we want to give up, they are there to encourage us and gives us words of wisdom".

"I have been at HUM II for a while.  In that time I have gotten to see our amazing students grow from young freshmen to adults in the workforce and with college and graduate degrees. I love watching many of our students participate in a program called Peer Group Connection, where a group of Juniors and Senior students get to mentor Freshmen and Sophomores.  It's so great seeing the connections and relationships that they get to build and seeing the Peer Leaders really embrace their roles as leaders in the school".

"My first year with HUM II is my eighteenth year working in K12. What really stands out for me about HUM II is the level of authentic care for students exhibited by the entire staff. What I would want every student at HUM II to know is just how much the adults in the building care about students and want each and every student to be successful. This is a very dedicated staff, from leadership, to the faculty, to operations; every adult at every level is dedicated to student success. In the day-to-day of any high school, sometimes it might not feel that way, but I can tell you that in my just under two decades of professional experience, the entire staff at HUM II is a group of caring adults, dedicated to creating an environment in which all students can achieve".
