Navigate by New Visions offers support to schools implementing Illustrative Mathematics (IM) high school curriculum, either for initial implementation or ongoing support for teachers/leaders.
The purpose of this implementation series is to get educators ready to teach and learn within problem-based classrooms where student thinking is front and center. This series gives educators first-hand experience with and confidence in using the IM Math curriculum.
Unit Overviews support teacher planning and pacing, as teachers recognize where different skills and concepts fit into the progression of understanding of the unit. Teachers make sense of the story of the unit and IM’s approach to the mathematics by examining selected activities from across the unit to describe how they illustrate the progression of understanding.
The number of days of coaching is based on the goals for this support. For example, an IM unit-based instructional coaching package could be 8-10 days.
What are the key features of IM 6–12 Math, and where do we focus as we implement a new curriculum? In this session, school leaders will learn about the important components of a problem-based curriculum, the design structure of IM Math, and key ideas from Teach & Learn.
