European colonists in North America faced a number of challenges to establishing permanent settlements. From conflicts with Native Americans, to developing a sustainable economy to creating structures of governance, the original 13 British colonies developed varying solutions, at times leading to vast regional differences.
Unit US.01 Outline
Students will be introduced to concepts from unit 1 and begin to build historical context for studying Colonial America.
These curricular resources explore the establishment of the 13 colonies including contact with Native Americans.
Students will examine different economic developments in Colonial America while also examining the causes and effects of these developments.
These curricular resources explore the evolution of self-governance in the colonies, and the causes of unification prior to the French and Indian War.
