Teacher to Librarian (T2L) Second Certificate Initiative

The Teacher 2 Librarian (T2L) Program enables certified classroom teachers to gain their M.S. in Library and Information Science, complete the course requirements to attain New York State certification as a PreK-12 school library media specialist, and take a position as a certified school librarian in the NYC Public Schools.

Cohort Four applications closed. If funding allows, we will announce another cohort in late 2025.

The T2L program will be offered as a blended experience with primarily online classes and some face-to-face classes in New York City.

Benefits

Teacher Benefits Include:

  1. Additional certification – Earn NYS PreK-12 Library Media Specialist certification.
  2. High quality, relevant coursework through either Syracuse University or St John Fisher University.
  3. Certification support as needed through New Visions.
  4. Subsidized Tuition – Generous support from NYC PS Office of Library Services and the college partners provides significantly subsidized tuition for participants who commit to work three years in NYC PS school libraries after graduation.
  5. Salary differential – Graduates will earn 30-36 credits that may apply toward their differential.
