Unit Overview

How do you boil water without pots?

Students tackle a real historical puzzle: how people boiled water using just hot rocks. They test what happens when hot and cold water mix, use a simulation to see heat moving at the particle level, then design their own experiment—before returning to finally explain exactly how stone boiling works.

Performance Expectations:

Lesson 1

How have various cultures done this in the past?

Lesson 2
