PostSecondary Pathways

New Visions has awarded scholarships to high achieving seniors annually since 2009. Scholarship recipients, the vast majority of whom are first-generation college students, are awarded up to $20,000 over 4 years to support the costs associated with attending the college of their choice.

Applicants must be graduating seniors in one of New Visions’ partner high schools. Our scholarship recipients, some of the most inspiring and accomplished young people in NYC, are selected based on academic rigor and achievement, community engagement, leadership, and financial need.

Since its inception in 2009, the New Visions Scholarship has awarded 327 winners $3,920,000 in scholarship funds.

Originally established in 2022 as the Opportunity Scholarship, the Beattie Scholarship was renamed in 2025 to honor New Visions founder and longtime Board Chair Dick Beattie. It assists students across our Affinity partner schools who may not qualify for other substantial awards that typically target only the highest achievers. This scholarship supports both college and career pathways.  Each year, two students from each network school are nominated by their educators, with one student receiving $10,000 over four years and the runner-up receiving a one-time $2,000 award.

Beattie Scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic readiness, leadership, clear postsecondary plan and demonstrated financial need.

The Beattie Scholarship has awarded 1,196 winners $5,804,000 in scholarship funds, since its inception in 2022.

In honor of long time New Visions Board member Jay L. Kriegel, who passed away in 2019, the Kriegel Scholarship awards 5 civically active graduating seniors a $5,000 scholarship. Principals nominate one senior who has demonstrated civic engagement in their school, local and global communities. The Kriegel Scholarship has no minimum GPA or financial needs requirements.

The Kriegel Scholarship has awarded 40 winners $200,000 in scholarship funds, since its inception in 2020.
