– IQ: How did Harlem Renaissance photographer James VanDerZee portray African Americans?

– LO: Examine photographs taken by James VanDerZee during the Harlem Renaissance to explore black culture in the 1920’s. Compare and contrast the photographs with a Langston Hughes poem and excerpt of Frederick Douglass’s writing to build a deeper understanding of the Harlem Renaissance.
